I want to read my bible more often. Like me, you might have made a similar new years resolution. But a few weeks into January and that initial drive is beginning to waiver. Fear not! The Word of God is abounding with reasons to get excited about your bible reading plan.
Here are the top three reasons to be excited about diving deeper into the Word of God:
The Word Is Food For Our Soul
Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
We love our food! We have become obsessed with our food. Be honest, have you taken a photo of your food at a restaurant or of a home cooked meal and posted it on Facebook or Instagram? You love food! We all love food!
In this passage Jesus teaches us that while physical food is important for nourishing our body, we still need spiritual food to truely live. The food that nourishes a healthy soul is the Word of God.
Not receiving the nourishment of the Word of God daily is like eating pancakes without syrup. It’s like eggs without bacon. It’s like KFC without the secret herbs and spices. There is something special missing.
In 2017 get as excited about the Word of God as you are about your next meal. Mix some verses of Jesus teaching into your breakfast cereal. Pour a chapter of the book of Acts into your protein shake. Slice some Psalms onto your sandwich. Be nourished by a big feed on the Word of God and grow in spiritual strength.
Be Changed Forever
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Reading the Word of God is dangerous. It is not an idle and lifeless book that has gathered dust for centuries. It is a book that is alive and it has spoken to generation after generation of people who have sought its wisdom for hundreds of years. But all those who seek in spirit and in truth are changed forever.
The passage here describes the Word of God as a sharp sword. When we read the bible, it reads us back. We cannot help but to perceive that our hearts are exposed and vulnerable in the presence of God’s Word. If we allow the sharpness of the Word to come near and change our heart then we are cut free. Free from bitterness, free from un-forgiveness, free from selfish arrogance, free from shame, free from a hurt-filled past.
Change is daunting, but it is the only way to grow in our faith. Be excited that the Word of God is alive and able to speak into your heart. Let it change you for the better today and every day.
It’s A Love Letter To You
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
For God so loved the world that He gave his only son. The Word of God become the physical presence of God with us when He sent Jesus to live on earth. Through Jesus we learn and experience the love God has for us. The whole message of the bible is centred around Jesus. The pouring out of the Fathers love to bring us back into relationship with Him.
God pursues those he loves. Let Him pursue you. He pursues you through His word. Open up the Word daily and let him whisper in your ear. Be embraced by the truth of who you are in Christ. Experience the grace that your father in heaven has for you. Find rest in His presence.
Kingdom Warriors get excited about the Word of God in 2017! Be hungry for the Word, let it shape and change you, and experience the love of the father who wrote it all for you.
