The eagle has been a symbol of freedom for generations. It is the envy of us who are stuck on the ground. We yearn for the same freedom that the eagle embraces when it takes flight. So what secrets can we learn from the eagle’s flight that will unlock freedom in our own lives?
An amazing fact about the eagle’s flight is that they soar to extreme heights but expend very little energy to do so. Instead of vigorously flapping their wings to propel themselves upward they choose to glide and rely on the natural upward air movement. This fact about eagles brings deep insight into the words of Isaiah the prophet:
Those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah identified that eagles trusted in something beyond themselves. The eagle does not place hope in it’s own strength. Rather the eagle renews it’s strength by trusting in the wind beneath it’s wings. Because it does not waste valuable energy flapping the eagle gets to enjoy the panoramic views from the lofty heights we can only dream of from the ground.
Just like the eagle trusts the wind to soar to new heights, Isaiah calls God’s people to place their hope in the Lord to raise them up. Pushing on through our daily grind we always seek to do it in our own strength, to fix our situation by ourselves. But the invitation from Isaiah is to have our strength renewed by placing our trust in the Lord. Waiting patiently on Him to lift us, and propel us, and sustain us.
Kingdom Warriors, the freedom to soar like an eagle will not come from our own strength. Seek the Lord and wait on His strength to lift you up.
